Agency Description: The Scranton Counseling Center provides comprehensive mental health, mental retardation and early intervention programs as well as functioning as a Base Service Unit. The Center provides behavioral health diagnosis, treatment and referral for children, adolescents, adults and the elderly.
ADULT PROGRAMS
Adult Services provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for persons age eighteen and older, who may be experiencing a variety of problems including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, family, marital, or work related issues. Professional therapeutic assistance may include psychological testing, psychiatric evaluation, and/or consultation with a physician. Various therapeutic treatments are offered.
Long-term Services: comprehensive mental health programs for adults with long-term or persistent mental illness. Services include diagnosis, treatment, outreach and case management and continuity of care for persons discharged from an inpatient unit or transferred from another community agency.
AUTISM PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN These are available to children with a diagnosis within the autism spectrum classification. Treatment utilizes the highly effective, scientifically documented methods of applied behavioral analysis. The preschool program offers intensive, discreet trial therapy in the home monitored by a psychologist while the school age program offers behavioral techniques prescribed by a psychologist and implemented by Scranton Counseling Center's trained staff. All training is in accordance with nationally accepted standards.
CHILD AND ADOLESCENT SERVICES
Provides diagnostic and treatment services for children and adolescents up to age eighteen who have adjustment or emotional problems including depression, ADD, ADHD, school adjustment, parent child conflict, eating disorders, fears, anxiety and loss of control. There is also an Adolescent Sex Offender Assessment and Treatment Program. Evaluations include family assessment, psychological testing and psychiatric exams. Treatment includes, but is not limited to, individual, family, group and play therapy.
CHILDREN'S EPSDT SERVICES These include Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS). Mobile Therapists and Behavioral Specialists.
CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS MANAGEMENT (CISM) This is a service available to schools, businesses and other employers. It is a comprehensive, organized approach for the reduction and control of the harmful aspects of stress. It involves systematic approaches to guiding people from the initial trauma, through reactions, to reintegration into functioning. CISM manages the situation from the initial call through the follow-up phase with a process that includes various approaches to help manage and defuse a seemingly out of control situation, providing a forum for exploration, education and a return to the new normalcy.
EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM
Identifies and addresses developmental delays, disabilities, and special needs of children from birth to age three and their families. Additional services include service coordination, family support services and family training. "Watch As I Grow" provides routine assessment and general information to insure age appropriate progress for high risk children until their third birthday.
EMERGENCY/CRISIS INTERVENTION
Available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week including holidays. Immediate mental health care and evaluation for persons in a state of emotional crisis, are provided by mental health professionals trained in the techniques of crisis intervention. Emergency service is available on site at the Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. After hours and on weekends and holidays, SCC staff is located at Community Medical Center in the Emergency Room and can be reached by calling the center's phone number (348-6100).
