Agency Description:
Agency provides research-based, unbiased information in three major program areas - Agriculture and Natural Resources - Children, Youth and Families - Community And Economic Development for both adults and youth. Educational programs include the 4-H program. Provides nutritional education for low income families with children, through federally funded programs. 4 H is a nonformal educational program for youth ages 8-19. The program is designed to help youth acquire knowledge, develop life skills, and form attitudes that enable them to be productive members of society. It is carried out largely through the involvement of adult volunteer leaders who share their knowledge and skills with members. 4H project materials are made available through community 4H clubs and as part of school enrichment programs. Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program is a funded program which provides nutrition education for low income families with children. Trained nutrition education advisors meet with homemakers in their homes or in groups to teach basic nutrition concepts. Lessons in planning meals, food safety, and the food groups are examples of information taught to adults and youth.
